Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Technology Applications

           Business Computer Information Systems I    (1 Credit)      

Students develop technology skills with applications to personal or business situations focusing on word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies; and develops intermediate- level skills. Students may earn Tech-Prep credit that can be applied at Collin County Community College. Course may count for one credit of Technology Applications

Business Computer Programming       (1 Credit)      ?

Students focus on structured programming and analytical problem-solving skills; develops advanced programming skills, with emphasis on methodologies, algorithms, and data structures; investigates programming languages and operating systems; analyzes computer systems through programming applications; and examines confidentiality and security of information as well as employment opportunities in various businesses environments.  Students may earn Tech-Prep credit that can be applied at any college that accepts tech-prep courses. Course may count for one credit of Technology Applications.

Desktop Publishing           (1 Credit)      

This course is a technical course that is designed to provide instruction in designing graphics using a computer and a variety of graphics software. Opportunities to evaluate current trends in graphic design, appreciate the value of good designs, appraise the design level related to the printing process, paper, ink, and associated elements will be included. The yearbook is designed and compiled in this course.  Course may count for one credit of Technology Applications.

Prerequisite: Teacher Permission           

 

Telecommunications & Networking  (1 Credit)          ?

This course provides a basic introduction to the development and impact of telecommunications, and the operational and technical aspects of network and telecommunications systems; explores the various types and uses of networks and on-line services; develops skills in accessing, navigating, and applying on- line services with appropriate supervision; and develops skills in creating, editing, and installing web pages with appropriate supervision. Students may earn Tech-Prep credit that can be applied at Collin County Community College. Course may count for one credit of Technology Applications.
