Your objective as a parent and the objectives of the school with respect to your son or daughter are the same—to give him or her the best possible guidance toward the realization of his or her highest capabilities. To accomplish that goal, full cooperation between home and school is essential. The following suggestions are intended to help you make the fullest possible contribution to your child’s success in school.
1. REGULAR AND PUNCTUAL ATTENDANCE is the greatest single factor in school success; therefore, your first concern should be to see to it that you son or daughter attend regularly. Parents who permit a child to be absent from school unnecessarily, not only place a handicap upon the students opportunity to succeed in his studies, but also indirectly encourage the development of poor student attitudes toward his work and obligations. Your cooperation with school officials in the promotion of regular attendance by your son or daughter will be well worth the cost to you in time and effort.
2. While there are a few subjects in which little or no work outside the class is necessary, the nature of the majority of subjects in the curriculum is such that some work outside of class is necessary for satisfactory progress. Even when written work is not assigned, there is usually a need for study in the subject. You can contribute greatly to your son or daughter’s success in school by PROVIDING FOR HOME STUDY.
3. A WHOLESOME ATTITUDE TOWARD SCHOOL and confidence in teachers are essential for the student’s maximum success in school.
You may help the school to serve your child’s interests by:
a) Making it your business to know your child’s teachers.
b) Calling the office to report any absences or request an early dismissal of your child.
c) Requiring seeing a report card at the end of each nine weeks period and asking about 3 weeks progress reports.
d) Studying report cards carefully, signing and returning the card promptly.
e) Refraining from telephoning students or sending messages during the school hours except for an emergency.

As a citizen of my high school, I shall protect my honor by dealing honestly with my associates, by never violating a trust of confidence placed in me, and by never breaking my word once given. 2. CODE OF EXCELLENCE: I will never be satisfied with my efforts until I have done my best. I will strive for excellence in order that I may go forth better prepared to serve. I will never be satisfied with “just getting by”. I will call on myself for my best, whether it is in the classroom, on the athletic field, or at any task I have undertaken.
3. CODE OF SPORTSMANSHIP: I will be an active booster of my school, its teams, and its representatives in all contests and competition. I accept without reservation the “Good Sportsmanship Code” which all promote a spirit of friendliness, respect, and fairness among the students of the schools with whom we compete. I will help to make my high school an example of good sportsmanship to all its neighbors.
4. CODE OF CITIZENSHIP: I am proud to be a part of my high school, and I will do my best to abide by its rules, protect its property, and uphold its standards. In all of my dealings with teachers and fellow students, I will practice the American tradition of fair play, courtesy, and respect for the rights of others. In measuring the worth of the other fellow, I will be true to my democratic faith and recognize that ones value is in himself.
I will not allow poverty or wealth of any artificial consideration to dictate my choice of friends or my estimate of others. I will demand only that they try to live up to this code which I am pledging myself.
ADMISSION
A student (or student’s parent) who wants to enroll in the District should contact the principal’s office of the school in which that person wishes to enroll.
ASSEMBLIES
A student’s conduct in assemblies must meet the same standard as in the classroom. A student who does not follow District rules of conduct during an assembly will be subject to disciplinary action.
Parents must:
Any other absences must have pre-approval form administration.
Failure to turn in any note at the proper time will make an absence unexcused.

The Board of Trustees shall constantly encourage academic excellence for the students in the Caddo Mills Independent School District. The Board is in agreement that outstanding scholars should be recognized and rewarded. The district Superintendent will annually approve the list of academic awards to be presented to students in the Caddo Mills Public Schools.

The student body of the Caddo Mills High School shall select most of the Fox Honors annually. If a student fails anything the grading period of school prior to voting, that student cannot receive any of the following awards. All awards that are voted on by the student body are first nominated by each classification then voted on by the entire body. If a student is assigned AEP before publication, they are not eligible for Fox Honors.
Mr. & Miss C.M.H.S.—represent our school in a respectable manner, and must be a Junior or Senior with at least an overall average of 85, excluding 3rd and 4th PE credits & PE equivalent, correspondence courses, credit by exam, and summer school classes.
Most Beautiful—young lady.

Best All Around—shows enthusiasm for school activities. One male and one female selected from either the junior or senior class.
Mr. & Miss Personality—one young lady and one young man.

to our school. Must be seniors.
No one student may win more than two Fox Awards voted on by the student body. In the case a person wins more than two, the categories with the highest number of votes cast will be awarded. The student with the second number of votes will receive the remaining awards. This rule does not apply to class officers, Most Likely to Succeed, Outstanding Citizens, Student Council Representatives, or Class Favorites.
The week before Homecoming, the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes will vote on the Homecoming Court. The court will be made up of one (1) Freshman, one (1) Sophomore, and one (1) Junior Princess. Each of these class princesses will be determined by a vote of the entire student body. The princess will be the representative with the most votes in the class. The Homecoming Queen will be elected from the Senior Class and will be determined in the same manner as the princesses. The three seniors receiving the most votes in the student body election will represent the Senior Class in the Homecoming Court. The senior with the most votes will be named the Homecoming Queen and the other two will be the Senior Princesses in the Court. The Homecoming Court will be named following the election. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at half time of the Homecoming Game. The adult of their choice will escort the Homecoming court at the game. The Prom dress code policy will be in effect for the Homecoming Court.
BACKPACKS
Backpacks may be used at CMHS, but must be clear or mesh.
CAFETERIA SERVICES
The District participates in the National School Lunch Program and offers nutritionally balanced meals daily to students. Free and reduced-price meals are available based on financial need. Information on this program can be obtained from the principal’s office.
Prices for Breakfast Students $1.25 Adults $1.50
Students are not allowed to charge lunch or breakfast.
CHEATING, PLAGIARISM, & ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Plagiarism is the use of another person’s original ideas or writing as one’s own without giving credit to the true author. Plagiarism will be considered cheating and the student will be subject to academic disciplinary action that may include loss of credit for the work in question. Teachers who have reason to believe a student has engaged in cheating or other academic dishonesty will determine the academic penalty to be assessed. Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty will be subject to disciplinary penalties as well as academic penalties.

This system will be used to establish each student’s rank in his/her class, for the selection of Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and to determine G.P.A. (Grade Point Average). All credit courses, including high school courses completed satisfactorily at the middle school, will be used in calculating grade point averages. The third and fourth year of PE, PE equivalent, courses taken in summer school, correspondence courses, and Credit by Exam and local credits will not be used in calculating grade point averages. Final senior averages will be calculated at the end of the 6th week of the 4th nine weeks. Beginning with the Freshman Class of 2004 – 2005, the third and fourth years of athletics will be calculated into the students GPA.
A grade point average for the year shall be compiled by averaging the first semester final grades and second semester final grades. The second semester final grades will be determined by averaging the 3rd nine weeks grade with the average of the first 6 weeks grades of the final nine weeks grading period.
The highest ranking eligible student shall be declared valedictorian and the second highest ranking eligible student shall be salutatorian as determined by the district’s class ranking procedure described in this policy.
Eligibility for highest ranking and second highest ranking student honors shall be limited to:
1. Senior students who have attended Caddo Mills High School as full-time students for their entire
junior and senior years and must have completed the Recommended Program or the Distinguished
Achievement Program for graduation.
2. Senior students who continue to be enrolled on a full-time basis at the time of selection.
3. Transfer Students with a higher-level course credits shall receive similar credits counted toward the
GPA according to the list of higher-level courses offered in the District and the grade point scale used for credit earned in the District.
For the purpose of these provisions, a “full-time student” is one who is enrolled in five or more classes each semester.
Advanced Classes:
Honors English I - IV; Algebra II; Pre-Calculus; Calculus; Chemistry; Business Computer Programming; Telecommunications and Networking; Accounting I; Advanced Accounting I; Advanced Accounting II; Spanish II; Spanish III; AP U. S. Government; AP U.S. History; Anatomy and Physiology.
(Students must be passing in advanced classes to be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities.)
Regular Classes:
All courses not listed as ADVANCED or ACCELERATED & RESOURCE.
Accelerated and Resource Classes:
Special Ed. Classes, VAC, Nova Net Courses, TAKS Science, Social Studies, Math & Language Arts, and Reading/MTA.
CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
All activities of the school should conform to the purpose of the school’s instructional program. Any social activities determined not to be a part of the instructional program and not under the direction of school personnel, must be planned for and limited to non-school hours. Student clubs and groups such as the band, choir, drill team, and athletic teams may establish codes of conduct and consequences for misbehavior that are stricter than those for students in general. If a violation is also a violation of school rules, the consequences specified by the school will supply in addition to any consequences specified by the organization.
1. Each class, grades 9 through 12, shall have 1 male and 1 female representative.
2. No class may have more than 2 representatives on the council excluding the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
1. All representatives of the student council must have an over-all average of 72 or above, and they must maintain a passing grade average in all subjects during the current year.
2. The representatives must not have been guilty of a major disciplinary infraction last semester or this; (indiscretion of student council and Principal).
3. Students must have attended Caddo Mills Public Schools for one semester prior to election.
1. The votes shall be taken by secret ballot.
2. Each class shall elect their representatives.
1. Each representative shall express the desires and opinions of the students he represents.
2. Each class representative shall report to his class as soon as possible after each Student Council meeting and shall report Student Council actions at these class meetings.
Beta Club:
Beta Club is the honor organization at Caddo Mills High School. Its purposes are to promote the ideals of honesty, service, and leadership and to reward meritorious achievement among the students of Caddo Mills High School. Emphasis in the organization is upon student service and leadership.
Academically, a student must, at minimum, attain a cumulative average (based upon semester grades) of 90 to be invited into membership. Invitations to membership are sent out in the spring of each year, induction follows, and new members are recognized and introduced at the Beta Awards Assembly. Throughout high school, members must maintain a cumulative average (based upon semester grades) of 90 or above; otherwise they may be place upon a semester’s probation and could lose membership privileges unless grades are brought up to the required minimum of an 90 overall average.
The organization’s colors are gold and black, and the motto is “Let us lead by serving others.” The Beta Club insignia emphasizes requirements for membership: achievement, character, and leadership.
The F.F.A. is a national organization that offers activities for its members at the local, district, area, state, and national levels. It is designed to compliment the curriculum offered by the Agri-science program. Activities sponsored by the F.F.A. include, but are not limited to, individual exhibition of livestock and crops, leadership development contests, career development contests, meetings and conventions at all levels, as well as fund raising and group planned recreational activities.
Becoming a member of the F.F.A. is simple. First year students must be enrolled in an Agri-science course to be eligible for membership. Those planning to raise an animal or crop project must enroll in Ag. Sc. 101, 102, 231, or 332. Individuals who have been members previously but are not able to enroll in an Ag. Sc. courses are still eligible to join. Students must be between 9 and 19 years of age. Annual dues of $12.00 are collected by October 1st. Dues pay for a magazine subscription from the state and national associations and for any awards earned from the chapter, district, and area levels.
The function of F.C.C.L.A. is to encourage personal growth and leadership development in teens through home economics education. Any student, through the twelfth grade, who is taking (or has taken) a course in home economics can become a member.
The F.C.A. is a non-profit organization for student athletes. The goal of this organization is to allow students to share in their faith with their fellow students. There is no membership fee or any other requirements.
Caddo Mills High School Drill Team is made up of 15 - 30 dancers who perform at football games, pep-rallies, basketball games, and competitions outside of school. The Foxette Drill Team shows spirit and supports all athletic teams. To become a member of the drill team, a student must try-out in front of judges or a judge by performing a dance routine. Each member will participate in practices and functions of the drill team and maintain at least a 70 in all courses.
Drill Team and Cheerleading tryouts will be held in the spring. Refer to Drill Team and Cheerleader Constitution requirements for tryouts.
CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT
Students are responsible for conducting themselves properly, in a manner appropriate to their age and level of maturity. The entire code of conduct is included in a separate section of this booklet. The district has authority over a student during the regular school day and while going to and from school on District transportation. This jurisdiction includes all activity during the school day on school grounds, attendance at any school related activity, regardless of time or location, and any school related misconduct, regardless of time or location.
CONFERENCES
1) if the student is not maintaining passing grades or achieving the expected level of performance,
2) if the student presents any other problem to the teacher
3) in any other case the teacher considers necessary.
A parent or student who wants information or wants to raise a question or concern is encouraged to confer with the appropriate teacher, counselor, or principal. A parent who wishes to confer with a teacher may call the office for an appointment during the teacher’s conference period or request that the teacher calls the parents during a conference period or at another mutually convenient time.
DISCIPLINE
Any student violating either the Student Code of Conduct or the Handbook will be subject to discipline. The District’s disciplinary options include using one or more discipline management techniques, in school suspension, removal to an alternative education program, suspension, and expulsion. Disciplinary measures are applied depending on the nature of the offense. A student that commits a drug, weapons, or alcohol related offense or any reportable criminal act, that student will be reported to legal authorities and may be prosecuted. The Principal or Superintendent can provide more information about the District’s Discipline Management Plan or copies of the plan upon request.
A student may be assigned detention outside of school hours on one or more days if the student violates the behavior outlined in this handbook or the Student Code of Conduct. The student assigned detention will be responsible for arranging transportation to or from school depending on when the detention is assigned. Students that do not attend their detention will be given night school or ISS.
ZAP POLICY (Zeroes Aren’t Permitted)
Academic excellence is our top priority at Caddo Mills High School. Class work and homework play a vital role in our student’s education which provides the student with an opportunity to grow and develop in specific areas addressed in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). It is our mission to provide students with meaningful lessons that will prepare them for college and life in general.
In addition to our after school detention we will implement a program for our students to complete a missed assignment he/she might have within a given time period. Academic success is a vital role in a student’s education; therefore students will not be allowed to receive a zero before having the opportunity to attend ZAP. Once a ZAP has been served, the zero can be replaced with a maximum grade of 70. Failure to serve an assigned ZAP detention will result in a zero for the missing assignment.
