Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Trade and Industrial Education

Technology Systems        (1 Credit)

An overview course designed to introduce the application of technology to solve problems and meet human needs and wants. This course incorporates an extensive collection of computers and peripherals to discover the underlying principles of technology. In this modular laboratory, the computer serves as a tool by which students access information in the broader technological arena. The technological arena focuses on the areas of bio-related technology; communication; computer applications; construction; energy, power, and transportation; and manufacturing. Content includes, but is not limited to, the study of systems of technology, application of technology, design/problem solving, evolving technologies, safety, maintenance, entrepreneurship, leadership, careers, and marketing.  Course may count as one credit of Technology Applications.

Constructions Systems

An exploratory course which addresses the utilization of construction for residential and civil structures. Students study and use common construction tools, machines, materials, and processes. Experiences in planning and controlling construction systems and projects allow students to explore the organizational structures and management strategies in construction.

 Technical Introduction to Computer-aided Drafting (1 Credit)      

This is a beginning technical laboratory course designed to provide an academically stimulating environment for students interested in and desiring to begin computer-aided drafting. Instruction includes computer hardware, CAD software, and technical drawings and problems generated and solved by using CAD. The interrelated human, scientific, and technological dimensions of CAD are examined using the resources of mathematics, science, and design skills used commonly in CAD-related careers. Students may earn Tech-Prep credit that can be applied at Collin County Community College.

Manufacturing Systems   (1 Credit)      

An exploratory course which addresses the knowledge and skills important in manufacturing technology. Students study common manufacturing tools, machines, materials, and processes in the laboratory. Experiences in planning and controlling simulated manufacturing systems and projects allow students to explore the organizational structures and management strategies in manufacturing.
