BOARD HIGHLIGHTS

NOVEMBER

The Board unanimously approved the Caddo Mills ISD Facilities Committee recommendations for naming the elementary schools.  Vonda Farmer, addressing the Board on behalf of the committee, shared their desire to name the two schools after long time Caddo Mills educators.  It was the committee’s recommendation that the existing elementary school located on HW 36 be named Frances and Jeannette Lee Elementary School.  Frances and Jeannette Lee collectively educated students for 66 years, most of those years in Caddo Mills.  The committee recommended naming the new elementary school located on FM 1565 Kathryn Griffis Elementary.  Kathryn Griffis taught in Caddo Mills for 32 years and is still very active in the community.  Through their dedication to education, these ladies made a positive impact on the lives of many Caddo Mills residents.  The committee also recommended that the library at the new elementary school be dedicated in memory of Mrs. Linda Thompson who lovingly taught first grade at Caddo Mills Elementary for many years.

The Board heard principal reposts for the first nine weeks grading period.  The reports included honor roll listings, campus attendance percentages, school events and activities, and the results of recent competitions.  The Board congratulated the campuses on a successful first nine weeks.

Knel Gandy, Curriculum Director for CMISD, presented for approval the Campus and District Improvement Plans.  She explained that the plans were data driven and included needs assessments, goals, and plans for improvement.  The board approved plans are posted on the Caddo Mills ISD website.  Ms. Gandy also briefed the Board on the Gold Performance Acknowledgements recently awarded to Caddo Mills ISD by the Texas Education Agency.  CMISD received 21 Gold Performance awards for outstanding achievement on indicators above and beyond what is considered for accountability ratings.  CMISD was commended with Gold Performance in all five of the core curriculum areas.

Under business items, the Board voted to cast its 364 Hunt County Appraisal District Board votes for candidate Joe Johnson.  The Board also passed a resolution to continue taxing “goods in transit”.  Action to tax goods in transit was required as a result of House Bill 621 which was passed in the last legislative session.

Claycomb and Associates presented a project update on the construction of the new elementary school.  The project update is posted on the Caddo Mills ISD website.
